In fact, you will need to buy a rear facing car seat and have it installed properly in your car before you can bring your baby home from the hospital. When to use a rear-facing care seatWhen purchasing a car seat, make sure that you have a proper rear facing car seat for your first one. Or, get a convertible model that can be rear-facing initially and then be switched to a front-facing model as the child grows older. Remember that your child must be in the rear-facing car seat until at least twenty pounds, although they can stay in it longer (up to thirty to thirty-five pounds depending upon the car seat). Most pediatricians actually recommend using the rear-facing position as long as possible, since it is by far the safest. What’s so special about rear facing car seats?
